The temporomandibular joints, located on either side of your skull, are the hinges that make talking, eating, and swallowing possible. If these joints become displaced or overworked — typically as the result of clenching or grinding your teeth due to chronic stress — it can lead to severe tension headaches, earaches, and face or jaw pain. This is called temporomandibular joint disorder, known as TMJ or TMD.
